Worldstar multiband receiver radio2/28/2023 ![]() Even when my hand is wrapped around the whip-antenna. Especially while my parents are driving around a city like Sacramento. The stations that my RDA-127 can kind-of receive tends to drift and fade in and out all over the place like a distant AM station. It needs to put out good Sensitivity in a car, and maintain a decent signal. Preferred Features: AM, FM, SW, AIR, (CB & LW Optional), Minimum battery life of 8 hours or better, Backlight or illuminated display (String dial or Digital, no preference) and Headphone Jack (must-have) So a Transoceanic would be one of my last picks. However, technology has advanced so much over the past +40 years, and there may be pocket-sized Portable multi-band radios that would perform better than the Transoceanic. ![]() Especially since he bought the Transoceanic when he graduated college. Of course, I'm getting really jelly (short for "Jealous") as I type this because the performance between mine and his was literally night and day, but I can't really afford such a nice Transoceanic, and I would feel guilty of acquiring his when he perishes from old-age or something. Keep in mind, we were at the Lloyd Center Mall in Portland, OR, a mall that's made of Steel construction and concrete parking garages. His Trans-Oceanic was literally picking WWV no problem. But when it came to the performance, his completely blew mine out of the water. Originally I wanted a Zenith Trans-Oceanic, as a Meetup attendee that I sat next to brought his D7000Y (and of course I brought my RDA-127). But I would like to upgrade to something that's actually good. is my one and only (for now) Multi-band radio. So I think it's time that I actually capture some distant stations outside of AM & FM. Then is enough to make it seem like a vintage kid's toy. The meter may not show much of a change, but the performance change Now vs. I even changed the half-dozen D-cells with fresh ones and the performance didn't change at all. In fact, all of those collaged images were taken when the Radio was receiving only static or receiving a signal weak enough that it didn't move the needle a single millimeter. At least with what the performance has degraded to after all these months. While it's a decent radio to start getting into Shortwave and all those bands, it's definitely not something to "WOW!" at. ![]() ![]() So I currently have a 1974-75 Reader's Digest RDA-127 "10-Band" (although only a 6-position selector) Multi-band Portable "Receiver", which is an AKA of the Worldstar MG-6000, that I bought for $35 at an Antique store in late April of 2019. ![]()
